Not quite the NHL...but still really cool!

This week my classes are playing a game called Scooter Hockey. Students have to sit on a scooter and use a "hockey stick" to try to score in a similar manner to regular hockey. Scooter Hockey is a great way to reinforce teamwork and skill related fitness. The fact that the students are on scooters makes the game safer and provides a good core and leg work out.

Throwton

The students have been playing a game called Throwton. A Throwton is a unique throwing object that throws like a football but is much more stable in flight. Throwton plays a lot like Ultimate Frisbee but is a lot faster. It is an excellent game for teaching moving in space or without the ball as well as teaching teamwork. The athletes are not allowed to talk and therefor must communicate in other ways. The students also get a great cardio work out as the game is a sprint/stop game similar to football but without the large down time that football has between plays.

Not Cheesehead...Cheeseball

This week we introduced a game called Cheese Ball. It is similar to baseball but with several modifications to make it PE friendly and a good indoor sport. At the high school the game is called Screwball and was invented by a Lindbergh high school PE teacher Coach Girard who created the soft indoor baseball that can be thrown straight or with a lot of English on it due to the dimples. We will even have guest pitchers like Mr. Hansel.
