I hope everyone is settling in well with the new school year. Coach and I are very excited to get back into the swing of things with the guys. We recently completed fitness testing and will be posting some information about that soon. We wanted to let you know what kind of precautions we are taking regarding heat. We have a cooling station with a tent shelter and ice water towels to cool off with in addition to ice water and allowing the students to go into the locker room to get a drink. We use the following chart to determine what activities we can do outside when there is excessive heat:
Heat index of 80-90 degrees: Classes may occur with scheduled water breaks.
Heat index of 90-100 degrees: Classes will continue with increased water breaks, limited conditioning, and time in shaded areas with cool down stations.
Heat index of 100-105 degrees: Classes
moved to cooler time of the day (morning or evening hours if possible),
very limited to no conditioning, with frequent water breaks and time in
shaded areas with cool down stations.
Heat index of 105 degrees or above: Classes will be moved inside with regular water breaks. (If in a non-air conditioned facility, there will be an increased frequency of water breaks.)
