Today in coach Hilton's class Ms. Gina stopped by to talk to the students about their perceptions of how prevalent drugs and alcohol are at Sperreng. There were some candid discussions between the students and Ms. Gina about the issue. Ms. Gina and her colleges will use the data gathered from all of the health classes to create better strategies on how to prevent students from starting to use drugs and alcohol.

ScrewBall!
One of the favorite activities in P.E. class is the game of ScrewBall. The ball and bat were invented by Tom Girard, a Lindbergh H.S. P.E. teacher. The rules of the game are similar to kickball. Be sure to view the "game action" photos of Coach Wilder's students.

With the weather improving peoples thoughts turn to swimming and boating. One of the items the 6th graders learn about is water safety resources offered in their area. Here are some of the resources that are being presented to the 6th graders. The 6th graders will receive a handout with this information. If you know if any other courses or resources or are affiliated with any other please feel free to e-mail me.

Healthy Heart
Today, coach Hilton's class discussed what it means to have a healthy heart. Students learned how to take their resting heart rate and what that number means. Later we discussed what maximum heart rate is and what target heart is. The students did a ten minute run and took their heart rate to see if they were exercising in their target heart rate zone. As a side note the average resting heart rate of my 70 12 year olds was 74 bpm, the normal range is 70 to 80 bpm.
